3D/4D ultrasound is a unique service offered by few obstetrician-gynecologists in the office. My dedication to keeping pace with innovation led me to offer this service to my patients.
The newly supplied GE Voluson machine provides a unique glimpse into the fascinating process of pregnancy. Details that previously were left to imagination are now vividly recapitulated on screen through the complex ultrasonography algorithms that make 3D/4D ultrasounds unique. Each patient that purchases an ultrasound is given a recorded copy of the ultrasound in video format.
My interest in this technology is two-fold. First, the machine enriches the physician-patient connection by allowing the patient to visualize their child to the clearest detail possible and also providing the physician with additional detail to ensure a safe and successful pregnancy. Second, 3D technology has evolved to permeate various aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. One such innovative use is in 3D mammograms (see additional article below).
These uses and the joy that this technology brings to expectant mothers convinced me to invest in offering 3D/4D ultrasound to my patients here in San Antonio. As one of the few private solo practitioners that offers this service in house, I am proud to offer a unique and fulfilling experience to my pregnant patients and continue assimilating innovation into patient care.
